Mission: To
establish, promote and influence a political/legislative agenda
which
supports the mission and goals of the Association.
Activities:
The committee prioritizes and promotes an annual legislative agenda
based on the current legislative initiatives of CPHA. The
Committee provides leadership for the promotion of health and the
prevention of disease among the people of Connecticut. To
that end, the Committee advocates its public health initiatives by
educating CPHA members, public constituencies and policy-makers.
Activities of the Committee include:

Monitoring
the status of pending legislation significant to CPHA’s public
health initiatives;

Preparing fact sheets (position papers) and
legislative updates;

Presenting written testimony on behalf of the CPHA
before the Connecticut General Assembly regarding proposed
legislation;

Organizing
lobbying efforts and grassroots advocacy by CPHA through the
Grassroots Advocacy Initiatives
Network (GAIN), legislative
education programs, CPHA’s registered lobbyist, and telephone and
letter writing campaigns;

Organizing and collaborating with CPHA members to
support CPHA’s public health initiatives;

Maintaining relationships with leadership at the
Connecticut General Assembly’s Public Health Committee and other
relevant Committees, the Executive Branch of the State of
Connecticut and the Connecticut Department of Public Health;

Collaborating
with other organizations to ensure that public health is a
priority in the legislative and policy-making process.
