Connecticut Public Health Association
Grassroots Advocacy Initiatives Network
The Advocacy Committee of the
Connecticut Public Health Association established the Grassroots
Advocacy Initiatives Network (“GAIN”) to expand the reach and
effectiveness of CPHA’s grassroots advocacy efforts.
Through GAIN, our elected
officials are given a clear and consistent message regarding CPHA’s public health policy goals. Acting as legislative
liaisons, CPHA members advance CPHA’s policy positions through
personal contact with key legislators on the Public Health
Committee, Education Committee, Human Services Committee and other
relevant Committees of the Connecticut General Assembly. The
legislative liaisons communicate with key legislators by writing
letters, making phone calls or making a personal visit to the
legislator’s office. Each CPHA member participating in GAIN is
provided with materials, education and guidance regarding CPHA’s
public health initiatives and regarding how to interact with
legislators.
Grassroots legislative
advocacy is important to the advancement of CPHA’s goals.
Legislators are influenced not only by what they know, but also by
what they hear from the people they represent. GAIN provides
active constituent participation in public health policy, largely
impacting and shaping decisions that will influence the future of
public health in Connecticut.
