What is Public Health?

Public health has multiple definitions and has many meanings.  According to Merriam-Webster Dictionary, public health is defined as "the art and science dealing with the protection and improvement of community health by organized community effort and including preventive medicine and sanitary and social science," and the American Heritage Dictionary defines public health as "the science and practice of protecting and improving the health of a community, as by preventive medicine, health education, control of communicable diseases, application of sanitary measures, and monitoring of environmental hazards."

While there is no singular definition of public health, the following websites can create a clearer picture of what public health is and what public health professionals do.
