Have you been a part of the expansion into community-based education? Are you interested in connecting with or becoming a part of this system of support for community health workers (CHWs)?

The Pacific and Southwest Regional Health Equity Council (PSWRHEC, Region IX) and ASTHO are hosting a webinar which will address case studies that have demonstrated the value and impact of CHWs on health disparities and how this documented value of CHWs can assist in educating and informing the work of policymakers, payers, and other critical audiences. Speakers will discuss the history and current landscape of practices in the region’s states and territories; highlight the work of the Council’s CHW subcommittee to date, and discuss recommendations on how to build and sustain a regional system of support.

As the US health care system strives to function efficiently, encourage preventive and primary care, improve quality, and overcome nonfinancial barriers to care, community health workers (lay health advocates, promotores de salud, community health advocates) have become essential in meeting these goals, since they are deeply attuned to the needs of the communities in which they serve.
