In this webinar, participants will learn critical ideas for promoting mental health in elementary school-age children. Ideas for a needs assessment will be discussed and ways to promote activities as part of character education and positive emotional development will be presented as a framework for presenting school activities to staff. Classroom-based activities that focus on improving children’s self-esteem and emotional expression, developed by the authors, will be reviewed. The authors will also review key websites to promote well-being, positive self-concept and prescription misuse prevention and drug prevention for young children. Ideas for describing mental health problems to children in the classroom will be presented. There will be opportunities for the audience to comment on ideas and make suggestions throughout this webinar. Participants will leave with a toolkit of activities to promote the mental health of elementary school-age children.
