Step Challenge Participants: Step away from COVID, the cold and being cooped up. This spring, we invite you to be a part of CPHA’s Fourth Annual Step Challenge. Reconnect with friends, family and colleagues and support public health, environmental health and your personal health. This year we invite our CPHA community to join us in walking green. Environmental health is the branch of public health that: focuses on the relationships between people and their environment; promotes human health and well-being; and fosters healthy and safe communities. Environmental health is a key part of any comprehensive public health system. The field works to advance policies and programs to reduce chemical and other environmental exposures in air, water, soil, and food to protect people and provide communities with healthier environments. We hope this opportunity allows you to reflect, deflect, and be active in a time of such circumstances. There is value in engaging in daily exercise as a way to be active, enjoy spring, and boost endorphins – staying active also boosts your immune system. Starting April 5th, we will begin our first step challenge. Can we beat last year’s record of 42, 351, 127 steps? Let’s step it up. Registration after April 5th is possible!
Whether you are interested joining the challenge as an individual or a team, you are welcome to participate. The size of the team is entirely up to you. Invite friends, colleagues, and family to join your team. Be sure to create a team name and register your team by April 5th to be eligible for the prize! Note: You and/or your teammates do not need to be members of CPHA to engage in the Step Challenge. The team with the highest average step count during the challenge will be the winner of the 2021 Step Challenge! Prizes*: Be among the following Step Challenge leaders and their teams that earn prizes and recognition:
- The captain of the team with the most steps
- The team with the best social media
- The student captain of the most active team (the most steps per person)
- The person who has the most steps on Earth Day.
In 2020 University of New Haven MPH program gave $500 to the winning step challenge team to donate to a charity of their choice. The team, Farmington Friends and Neighbors, collectively decided to direct the monies to Foodshare, a truly a winning donation from a winning team.
*To be eligible for the prize, the teams must consist of three or more members who report steps each week of the challenge. Individuals (i.e. not in a team) are more than welcome to participate, but will not be eligible for the prize. * Register Here
