The Connecticut Health Foundation (CT Health) invites you to join us for a breakfast that will bring together health leaders and journalists. This lively presentation and discussion will help you work with the media to gain coverage of health care issues that affect consumers and communities, particularly with regard to health equity – CT Health’s new strategic focus.

Presentation: The 10 Commandments of Dealing with the UnGodly Press

Date/Time: Wed., Sept. 25, 2013 – 8:00 a.m. – 9:15 a.m. Continental breakfast.

Location: Connecticut Institute for Primary Care and Innovation (near Saint Francis Hospital), 561 Ashley Street in Hartford. Free onsite parking.

Speaker: Larry Tye, manager of the Blue Cross/Blue Shield Foundation of Massachusetts Health Coverage Fellowship for Journalists and award-winning former Boston Globe medical reporter. Tye is author of New York Times bestseller Superman and other books including Satchel, The Father of Spin, Home Lands, Rising from the Rails, and Shock with Kitty Dukakis. He is currently writing a biography of Robert F. Kennedy.

Special Guest: Dr. Jocelyn Elders, former U.S. Surgeon General appointed by President Bill Clinton. Elders, a dynamic speaker, cares deeply about disparities and equity. She is the winner of a National Institutes of Health Development Award and is currently a professor of pediatrics at the University of Arkansas Medical Center.

After the breakfast, health leaders will depart and Connecticut journalists will join the speakers and other guests for a workshop on effectively covering health equity stories.

Who Should Attend: This event is best suited for health leaders working on health equity issues who are either experienced with interfacing with the press and want to get better, or who are new to media relations with specific objectives for increasing coverage over the next year.
