As the focus of health reform shifts to the states, much of the work to change our health system to improve access to quality care and reduce costs will take place in the states. Join the Alliance to Reduce Disparities in Diabetes and the National Governors Association for a discussion with policy experts to examine current state policies and actions needed to address health care workforce issues and incentives that could improve patients’ access to needed services.

Webinar participants will learn about health care workforce challenges and potential barriers to effective community-clinic connections. Experts will discuss policies that could address these challenges, including the recent Medicaid decision to allow reimbursement for preventive services provided by a range of health care professionals.

Additionally, participants will hear about state strategies for collecting and analyzing workforce data as well as methods for assessing scopes of practice and licensure processes to provide more flexibility for certain health care workers.

Leaders from the Alliance’s programs in Chicago and Dallas will share their on-the-ground experience in working within the health care system to change the way care is delivered for underserved populations. The changes they are piloting could serve as models for states as they consider policies needed to create health care systems that better meet patient needs while reducing health care costs.
