The CT Association of Prevention Practitioners (CAPP) is teaming up with the national organization Smart Approaches to Marijuana (SAM) and CT officials to host a forum to share concerns about the unintended consequences that medical marijuana may bring to our state and the use of updated marijuana research to guide policy decisions on February 10, 2014 from 10am to 12pm at the State Capitol in the Old Judiciary Room.
CAPP and co-sponsors, Senator Meyers and Representative Candelora, will host the forum to increase awareness about the science of today’s marijuana, to prevent the establishment of "Big Marijuana” – a new version of "Big Tobacco”, and to promote research on marijuana to obtain FDA-approved, pharmacy-dispensed, cannabis-based medication that are non-smoked. Kevin Sabet, the Director of SAM and past Senior Advisor for Policy to the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy will take part in the event and stated, "Marijuana legalization will lead to a new version of the Big Tobacco industry dedicated to increasing addiction and undermining our youth and the vulnerable.” Possible unintended consequences of medical marijuana observed in other states include increased abuse among youth, increased crash fatalities, confusion by the medial field on side effects, safety concerns and dosage amounts for the various approved medical conditions.
For more information, contact Lisa Mason, CAPP Public Education Co-Chair, at [email protected] or 860-347-5959.
RSVP is appreciated by February 6th to [email protected].
