Public Health Implications of Recreational Freshwater “Blue-Green Algae” (Cyanobacterial Blooms)

Over the past several decades there has been a growing concern with the presence of toxin-producing blue-green algae or cyanobacteria in recreational waters. The presentation will provide an introduction to the health concerns related to cyanobacteria exposure, describe monitoring techniques and results of recent monitoring, summarize the CT DPH/DEEP guidance for recreational exposure to cyanobacteria, and provide time for open discussion.
