The complexity of health disparities and health inequities requires public agencies to implement a variety of upstream strategies to effectively address these problems. Ohio’s Office of Health Transformation (OHT) which oversees all state-level health and human service initiatives has determined that Ohioans spend more per person on health care than residents in all but 17 states. However, higher spending does not result in better health outcomes. In fact, Ohio ranks 37 in health outcomes and health disparities and health inequities are major contributors to this problem. Solutions to these challenges are often embedded within the everyday activities of governmental agencies. OHT is at the forefront of supporting initiatives to improve health outcomes and a better quality of life for all Ohioans. The purpose of this webinar is to highlight state level policy, administrative, data and strategic partnerships to advance health equity in the state of Ohio. Key topics addressed by this webinar include:

The use of national strategies such as the National Stakeholder Strategy and Healthy People 2020 in the design of initiatives to address racial and ethnic health disparities in Ohio.

Implementation of designated Patient Centered Medical Homes to address healthcare disparities among racial and ethnic minorities.

The use of data to inform policies, programs and initiatives to address health disparities and inequities.

An overview of the new health disparity elimination language in the Medicaid Managed Care Contracts (and pending implementation of the Health Equity Workgroup).
