Gun violence statistics in America are growing increasingly dire, but as a country we have not moved any closer towards resolution of the gun policy debate. The firearms conversation is divisive and inflammatory: advocates on either side are heated, passionate, and unable to reach compromise. As their political battle continues, gun violence itself is becoming an increasing desperate public health problem.
In this Web Forum, we will look at some of the underlying reasons that the current political atmosphere and dialogue has created an environment where the two sides of the debate can’t meet at the table to move forward. Furthermore, our panel will offer some ideas and discussion about new ways to frame the issue, in hopes of fostering alignment to create improved policies around gun safety.
