Southern Connecticut State University invites members of the Connecticut Public Health Association to attend a presentation on Ebola on Tuesday, December 9, at 5:30 p.m. The event will be hosted at Southern on the Green (SOTG), SCSU’s new downtown satellite space, at 900 Chapel St., 10th floor, New Haven.

“Understanding Ebola: Facts, Fear and the Front Line” will explore what it’s like to work on the front lines of the Ebola epidemic and the social and cultural impacts in the United States. John Nwangwu, SCSU professor of epidemiology, will share his first-hand experience working as a consultant for the World Health Organization in West Africa, where he and his team investigated the Ebola virus disease outbreak and provided control strategies to the government. Kathleen Skoczen, chair of the SCSU Anthropology Department, will discuss the social, economic and political dimensions of Ebola and consider lessons from the HIV epidemic in the United States to help address the Ebola epidemic today.

“Understanding Ebola” is the first installment in #SocialSeries @SouthernOTG, a conversation series on current cultural topics — global ideas in a local context – hosted at Southern on the Green. The series is free and open to the public. Participants are invited to submit questions ahead of time on Twitter to @SouthernOTG with hashtag #SocialSeries.
