HPV Vaccine: Challenges and Opportunities

Vaccines against human papillomavirus have been available for adolescents in the US since 2006 but uptake remains suboptimal. Reasons for this are likely complex and multifactorial. The purpose of this presentation is to review evidence for strategies that work to increase coverage and identify opportunities that can be implemented in Connecticut.
Participants will be able to:
- Review HPV-associated diseases and available HPV vaccines
- Describe the current status of HPV vaccine uptake in the US and in CT
- Understand key reasons for low coverage
- Identify strategies that are effective for increasing coverage
- Discuss the role of health care providers to increase coverage
- Discuss potential opportunities to increase coverage in CT

Each physician should claim only those hours of credit that he/she actually spent in the educational activity. Continuing Education Requirements for Nurses
· The American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) will accept documentation of participation in the teleconference as meeting continuing education requirements toward recertification.
· The American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) will accept documentation of participation in this teleconference as meeting continuing education requirements for certified nurses. The credit hours will transfer equally. CTAAP will provide verification of participation in letter form to the nurse. Nurses must submit the proper paperwork to the ANCC for approval.
