Sexual Violence in Black Faith-Based Communities
Religious institutions have historically played an important role in supporting Black communities. When people are seeking support and guidance, and are a part of a faith community, that community is more than likely the first place they turn to. However, conversations about sexual violence are not often taking place within the confines of faith-based institutions and communities.
This community conversation will be facilitated byMelinda Johnson and address the following questions: How is your community seeing sexual violence showing up? How has your faith community addressed sexual violence? What are some of the barriers to addressing sexual violence within the context of faith? How is your community uniquely positioned to support survivors? What does a faith-based response look like?
