An important bill that would move Connecticut forward in protecting children’s health is now sitting on the House calendar awaiting a vote. BUT WITH THE SESSION ENDING ON JUNE 5TH, THE CLOCK IS TICKING!

House Bill 6489: An Act Concerning Children’s Safety, as amended, would help to end children’s exposure to toxic chemicals in everyday consumer goods. The bill will set up a framework within Connecticut to identify chemicals that are harmful to children based on toxicity and exposure hazard, and require the Department of Public Health to make recommendations to the Legislature every two years for action.

The Toy and the Chemical Industries are lobbying hard every single day at the Capitol to defeat us. WE BELIEVE THAT PARENTS DESERVE TO KNOW THAT THE PRODUCTS THEY BUY FOR THEIR CHILDREN ARE SAFE!

Please help by taking a minute to call House leaders and ask them to call the bill for a vote?

THE ONLY WAY WE WILL WIN IS WITH THE HELP OF CONCERNED PEOPLE LIKE YOU!!

Speaker of the House Brendan Sharkey: 860-240-8500

House Majority Leader Joe Aresimowicz: 860-240-8489
(Pronounced "air-oh-SIM-uh-witz", but you can also just say "the Majority Leader")

You'll most likely get an aide or an answering machine when you call -- that's fine.

Here's a sample script for those who prefer one: "Hi, my name is ___. (Feel free to mention that you are a CPHA member) I'm calling to ask (the Speaker/the Majority Leader) to support HB 6489, with the proposed amendment to protect children’s health from toxic chemicals. Please call the bill for a vote as soon as possible and work to make sure it passes into law this session.”

Thank you in advance for your time and for your advocacy.
