Assistant Professor in Public Health
The Department of Nutrition and Public Health at the University of Saint Joseph invites applications
for an Assistant Professor in Public Health. The position is a full time, tenure track, nine-month
appointment beginning August 2016. The department offers an undergraduate public health major, an
accredited undergraduate dietetic program, a nutrition and wellness major, a post-graduate accredited
dietetic internship, and an online nutrition graduate degree program. Faculty within the department
also conduct research with several active grants.
The successful candidate will have a doctoral degree in Public Health, or a closely related discipline
such as epidemiology; commitment to undergraduate teaching and advising; effective oral and
written communication and interpersonal skills; and demonstrated potential for grant funded
scholarship and publications. Preferred qualifications include expertise (research or teaching) in
epidemiology, health systems and policy, or health services administration.
Primary responsibilities include teaching a variety of courses at the undergraduate level, and in the
future at the graduate level, student advisement, committee and other service activities, and
potentially conducting grant-funded research. Courses may include epidemiology, global health,
health literacy and health care policy. Responsibilities as a USJ Professor comprise active
participation in department, school, and university activities and committees. In accordance with the
university’s mission, faculty are responsible for advancing professional development in teaching,
scholarship and service to the university and affiliated communities.
