GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
Applies knowledge of environmental health and performs inspections to control and improve the health of
the community.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Works under the supervision of the Chief Sanitarian.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
Four-year college degree with 30 semester hrs. in physical or biological sciences preferred. Experience
working with a local health department or in the field of environmental health. CT Certification for Food
Service Establishment Inspector, and holds a valid CT drivers license.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY:
General knowledge of the principals, practices and techniques applied in conducting inspections or
investigations of environmental sanitation. General experience and knowledge of laws, rules and
regulations pertaining to municipal environmental health and sanitation control: computer literacy with
M/S platform, strong written and oral communication skills, ability to prepare written reports containing;
findings, analysis, conclusions and corrective recommendations. Ability to manage office and field work
independently is required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Incumbents in this class must be able to perform inspections subject to some risk of injury from adverse
on site environments. May be exposed to some discomfort from year round weather conditions.
Incumbents must be able to lift 25 to 50 pounds. Work is performed in office and field settings. Field
inspections include; walking, climbing, lifting or carrying light equipment and close visual observation with
specific capacity for detail. The employee must have the physical ability to complete required tasks.

FOOD SERVICE INSPECTOR – Contractual

The Chatham Health District is seeking an individual to conduct inspection of food service establishments and temporary food events in the District. Applicants must be certified in food service inspection by the State of Connecticut. Valid CT motor vehicle license is required. Open until filled.
