LOCATION: 410 Capitol Avenue, Hartford, CT
SHIFT/HOURS: 1st Shift/35 hours per week
SALARY GROUP/RANGE: HC 23/$58,073*- $78,713 (*NEW State Employees)
NOTE: Candidates must have applied for and passed the Epidemiologist 2 (InfChrDis) exam and be on the current certification list promulgated by the Department of Administrative Services. State employees currently holding the above title or those who have previously attained permanent status in the class may apply for lateral transfer. Applicants will not have the opportunity to take the exam prior to the above closing date to qualify for this particular vacancy.
PREFERRED SKILLS:
- Experience organizing and analyzing epidemiological data using the National Healthcare Safety Network’s (or a similar system’s) protocols and software for surveillance of healthcare associated infections;
- Experience accessing and abstracting epidemiological data from medical records;
- Experience working with medical professionals, including infection preventionists, in epidemiological surveillance for healthcare associated infections;
- Experience performing data analyses using standard biostatistical tests;
- Experience using computer software (including ACCESS, Epi Info, and SAS) for epidemiological analysis;
- Ability to independently perform epidemiological investigations following protocols used in surveillance for healthcare associated infections;
- Ability, with supervision, to prepare epidemiological surveillance protocols in surveillance for healthcare associated infections;
- Experience preparing written data reports, including the use of text and graphics to describe analyzed data;
- Experience giving verbal presentations on epidemiological data and analyses, to answer both professional and lay audience questions.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
Knowledge, Skill and Ability:
Considerable knowledge of relevant disease processes which affect humans and animals; considerable knowledge of epidemiological methods and techniques; knowledge of basic biological processes; oral and written communications skills; interpersonal skills; computer skills; ability to independently perform epidemiological investigations; ability to independently collect, analyze and interpret epidemiological data. Considerable knowledge of infectious and/or chronic disease processes.
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
General Experience:
Six (6) years' experience conducting epidemiological investigations in a responsible technical or professional capacity.
Special Experience:
One (1) year of the General Experience must have involved interviewing and performing trend analyses at or above the level of Epidemiologist 1.
Substitution Allowed:
1. College training may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equaling one-half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of four (4) years for a Bachelor degree.
2. A Master's degree in Public Health, Community Medicine or a related health science may be substituted for one (1) additional year of the General Experience.
3. A Doctorate in a related discipline such as Public Health, Medicine or a natural or behavioral science may be substituted for the General Experience.
Special Requirement:
1. Incumbents in this class must be willing to be immunized for communicable diseases as necessary and appropriate.
2. Incumbents in this class may be required to travel.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Incumbents in this class may be exposed to communicable diseases and hazardous substances.
