Committee Recruitment

RECRUITING CPHA COMMITTEE MEMBERS

Committees play key roles in allowing the Connecticut Public Health Association to operate and to continue to bring information, resources, and events to our membership and others in the state.  As we grow as an organization, CPHA is looking to recruit some volunteers to join the people already hard at work on these committees.  Each of the four committees in question plays a different role and is looking for people different skill-sets and interests. We hope you will consider this opportunity to support the organization.  Please keep reading to learn more. Scroll to the bottom to apply.

Programs Committee

What does the Programs Committee do?

The Program Committee organizes CPHA’s Annual Conference, which takes place in late October or early November. Members organize all aspects of the event including theme, agenda design, keynote speaker and panelist recruitment, abstract review, promotion and outreach communications, panel and abstract session facilitation, fundraising, and event logistics.

In the future, the Program Committee hopes to plan, or collaborate with others to plan, additional events throughout the year.

What would I do on the Programs Committee?

From June through October, the Committee anticipates meeting approximately every two weeks leading up to the event. Closer to the Annual Conference, members should expect somewhat frequent check-ins including quick calls and emails (rather than long meetings) to address specific issues and make sure we are ready for the Conference. Tasks will be distributed according to expressed interests and skills in an effort to make the event successful and participation gratifying.

What is CPHA looking for in Programs Committee members?

The Program Committee is looking for about 5 more members who have great organizational skills and are enthusiastic to pitch in to making our events a success for presenters, speaker, attendees and vendors.

As a HEC member, you’ll attend a monthly committee meeting.  Additionally, you’ll be involved in various aspects of planning and implementing our educational events.  Though roles may shift, you may be asked to help come up with ideas for educational opportunities, recruit speakers, find partner organizations, arrange continuing education credits, create marketing materials, and identify opportunities to advertise the events to new audiences.

What is CPHA looking for in Health Education Committee members?

We are currently looking for 2-3 individuals who have a passion for health education and who have creative ideas for health education opportunities.

What does the Communications Committee do?

The Communications Committee is responsible for developing, updating, and monitoring CPHA’s communications policies, social networking accounts, and electronic discussion groups, as well as recommending new ways for the organization to communicate with its members and other interested parties through alternative media.

The committee is also responsible for regularly updating and marketing information about section activities, meetings, outreach, news updates on the CPHA board members, and other updates on current national and world events impacting public health in Connecticut.

What would I do on the Communications Committee?
Committee members attend a regularly scheduled Communications Committee meeting, create website/email/social media templates, create content that promotes the role of CPHA both inside and outside of the organization.  They will assist with an eNewsletter in terms of creating new substantive content areas as well as developing procedures for obtaining and/or vetting substantive contributions from members.

What is CPHA looking for in Communications Committee members?

We’re looking for 2-3 individuals who have a good knowledge of social networking, feel confident in the creation of creative content, and who are open to new ideas for outreach to members to generally promote CPHA’s events and accomplishments, and to encourage membership growth and retention.

Membership Committee

What does the Membership Committee do?

The Membership Committee is responsible for expanding and maintain our roster of individual and organizational members.

What would I do on the Membership Committee?

As a part of the Membership Committee, you will be responsible for creating and helping to implement strategies to recruit new members and to retain our existing ones.  Tasks include cultivating relationships with prospective CPHA members, identifying decision-makers for organizational memberships, as well as following-up with recently lapsed members, and conducting outreach to current students, early- career professionals, and seasoned practitioners in public, private and non-profit arenas.  This committee will meet monthly, and the Chair will also attend CPHA’s monthly full board meeting.

What is CPHA looking for in Membership Committee members?

CPHA is looking for one Committee Chair and an additional 2 individuals to serve as committee members.  Irrespective of the role, those participating on this committee should feel comfortable promoting CPHA to potential members, including to your existing networks as well as to those you don’t yet know.
